C++'s Origins
C++ was originally designed and implemented by Bjarne Stroustrup (http://www.research.att.com/~bs/) in 1989. It was initially called "C with Classes", but the name C++ caught on quickly. It is a powerful programming language supporting all of the features of C and more, including an object-oriented class library, often referred to as the STL, or the Standard Template Library. C++ compilers generally generate very efficient code and are available for every platform.
yournickname
Long long ago, in a galaxy far far away, yournickname (shown at right) founded the channel #C++ on DALnet (http://www.dal.net/). He and the earliest ops (cehteh, dp2, and LunarJetman) helped to create a friendly environment where both novices and advanced programmers alike could come together to discuss C++, share programming tips, and otherwise help each other. Since then, the pool of ops and regular users has grown quite large and includes individuals from many countries, planets, and genera (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=genera).
tequilla
In September of 2002, the founder's nick expired, and the channel was dropped. Luckily, tequilla (http://www.enisoc.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6) (one of the SOPs at the time) noticed it, and on Wed 09/11/2002 08:38:55 GMT (according to ChanServ) the channel was reregistered. Will this mark the beginning of a new era for #c++? Or will things remain pretty much the same? No one knows for sure, but I for one am hoping that hydrogen powered cars catch on in the coming decades.
